Ken Salomon, Past President

Ken Salomon is one of the founders and original board members of the Maryland Soccer Foundation.  Ken’s interest in soccer stems from watching his daughter Amy’s play the game, which began with a rec team when she was 5, followed by the MSI then BSC Falcons state champion select soccer team beginning at age 7, through high school soccer, the Maryland Olympic Development Team, and four years as a varsity player at the University of Pennsylvania.  

He is the Chair of the Lobbying & Policy Group of Thompson Coburn, LLP, a major national law firm and is the treasurer and a board member of Thompson Coburn Political Action Committee.  Ken has spent his entire legal career in the public and private sectors in Washington, DC representing clients in a variety of sectors before Congress, including e-commerce, K-12 and higher education, telecommunications and technology, and international trade and intellectual property among others.  Ken is an honors graduate of both Tufts University and the George Washington University School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review.  In 2015, Ken was elected a member of the Ethics Committee of the United States Olympic Committee.  He is a member of the Industry Advisory Board of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association.  He also served on the advisory boards of the University of Maryland University College Center for Intellectual Property and the Oklahoma State University Institute for Teaching and Learning Excellence and was an adjunct professor on telecommunications at the Johns Hopkins University School for Advance International Studies.

Julius Robinson

Julius W. Robinson is the Vice President and Global Lead for Autograph Collection Hotels and Tribute Portfolio Hotels, two of Marriott’s premium distinctive brands within its portfolio. In this role he is responsible for business development, brand positioning, marketing, and overall operations for the brand(s) consisting of over 150 hotels around the world. Robinson also leads a team dedicated to Marriott’s Diversity Ownership Initiative aimed at increasing hotel ownership among women and minorities.     

Prior to this, Julius was the Vice President, Franchise Operations for Marriott's Fairfield Inn & Suites Brand comprised of over 750 hotels throughout the Americas.
Mr. Robinson’s Marriott career spans 25 years where he has held senior leadership roles in hotel operations, global sales, and revenue management. He is a graduate of Rutgers University with a BA degree in Political Science and an MBA from the R.H. Smith Business School at the University of Maryland.

Charles Washington

Charles Washington is Director of Government Affairs & Industry Relations for Total Wine & More. In this role, Charles is responsible for managing legislative, regulatory, political, and industry policy across Total Wine & More’s footprint.
Total Wine & More is the nation’s largest independent retailer of fine wine, beer, and spirits, with nearly 150 stores in more than 20 states.

Charles has over a decade of public affairs experience in complex, heavily regulated industries. Most recently, he served as Director of State Relations for Exelon and Pepco Holdings, Inc. In this role, he represented multiple Exelon utilities before executive branch and legislative officials; and he advocated the company’s positions on relevant business, tax and energy policy issues. Prior to joining Pepco Holdings, Inc. in 2006, Charles worked for Duke Energy in a number of external affairs and communications roles.

Charles is a 2008 graduate from Leadership Montgomery and is active with a number of local community organizations, including the Maryland Soccer Foundation (Soccer Plex) board and the Montgomery County Parks Foundation board. Charles has served on the Montgomery County Boys and Girls Clubs board; Maryland Clean Energy Center advisory board; and the Committee for Montgomery Board of Directors, where he previously served as Chair.

Charles earned a Master of Business Administration at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business and a global business degree from Spain’s ESADE Business School. Charles holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Davidson College in North Carolina.

Giovanna Wood

A native Spanish speaker from South America, Giovanna joined the board in the spring of 2016. She has been a long-time volunteer with Bethesda Soccer club and she said she hopes to be able to provide a voice for the Hispanic community. In addition to her enthusiasm and knowledge for soccer, Wood brings valuable experience in finance and business development to her role. For 11 years she has worked at Export-Import Bank, most recently as a senior portfolio manager for the Asset and Risk Management Division. She also spent nearly a decade in a similar role at Euler Hermes-ACI and was a credit advisor for Bank of America before that.
